The first answer
Chemical versus treatment
Epitalon is a lab-made peptide: a short chain of four protein building blocks. It was modelled on epithalamin, an extract taken from the pineal gland of cattle. The pineal gland is a small gland in the brain that makes melatonin, the body's sleep hormone. The FDA treats epitalon and the cattle extract as two different substances.
As of September 2026, epitalon is not an FDA-approved medicine in the United States, and it has no official US drug label, the FDA-checked sheet of uses and warnings that comes with an approved medicine.
That does not make the chemical imaginary. It means the treatment claims have not passed the review required for an approved medicine.

Telehealth
A visit format, not a seal of approval
Telehealth simply means seeing a clinician, the doctor or other licensed health professional treating you, by video or phone instead of in an office. A screen does not change the evidence for a drug or the rules for making it.
A careful visit can end with questions, a different plan, or no prescription.

US status
The withdrawn request changed nothing
Compounding is when a pharmacy makes up a medicine for a single named patient, rather than supplying a finished product made by a drug company.
As of September 2026, epitalon is not on the short federal list of extra ingredients such a pharmacy is allowed to use.
Someone had once asked the FDA to allow epitalon, and that request was later taken back.
Taking it back did not make epitalon allowed, and it did not move epitalon into the group of ingredients the FDA has said it will leave alone for now.

Human evidence
Small and easy to overread
The FDA's 2026 review found only three human studies in which people received epitalon.
Two used a spray under the tongue in night-shift workers; one used injections near the eye for an inherited eye disease.
None tested whether epitalon helped people live longer, reduced illness, or improved sleep.
